Paul Verhaert receives the Henry van de Velde Award 2015 for his career
Paul Verhaert, engineer and designer of the patented JORI relax mechanism, has received the Henry van de Velde Award 2015 for his successful career.
The Belgian design furniture company JORI has conquered a unique position on the international furniture market: the pursuit of ultimate customized living comfort, coupled to innovative design, high-end technology and quality implementation. From the very beginning the company has set the bar extremely high. In the early 1970s, JORI started co-operating with internationally famous designers and product developers, thus guaranteeing the unique JORI DNA.
Engineer Paul Verhaert is the inventive brain behind the patented JORI relax mechanism, which has been subjected to further product developments over the years and which is still being used in all the JORI recliners today. Verhaert has developed for JORI a 360° pivoting relax system with ‘muscle tonus 0’. This means that the tension in the muscles decreases so that the body is completely relaxed and offers maximum comfort in each position, without compromising on design.
Paul Verhaert was a collaborator and member of the board of directors at JORI until 2015 and has contributed to the success story of the brand. His son Koen Verhaert is continuing the tradition of designer and member of the board of directors at JORI. Today the ergonomic recliners are still the best selling seating chairs in the range.
